Press Release: International Women’s Forum Convenes Members, Issue Experts in Toronto for World Leadership Conference

“Open Minds” Features Discussions on Critical Global Issues, Including Refugees, Artificial Intelligence and Gender Identity

TORONTO – From November 13-15, the International Women’s Forum (IWF) will convene more than 1,100 women experts from 30 nations in Toronto, Canada, for its 2019 World Leadership Conference. Centered around the theme of Open Minds, the three-day conference will provide a global platform for thought leaders from across sectors to discuss topics ranging from the global refugee crisis to gender identity.

“IWF is thrilled to convene its World Leadership Conference in Toronto. We have selected one of the most diverse cities in the world to gather under the theme of ‘Open Minds’ – to create, collaborate and connect as an organization – as we examine the past, experience the present and envision a global future,” said IWF President Deborah Shannon Trudeau.

From the benefits and challenges of artificial intelligence to the business of cannabis, from the modern definition of monopoly to addressing waste from single-use plastics, this year’s conference topics are timely and relevant.

At its annual gala on Friday evening, IWF and LF will celebrate two transformative figures whose contributions to science and society are outsized on a global scale: Nobel Laureates Drs. Frances Arnold and Donna Strickland. These trailblazing scientists will be inducted into the IWF/LF Hall of Fame. The event will also honor seven Women Who Make A Difference honorees – IWF members selected for making a difference in their communities and the world beyond.

The conference will feature more than 30 speakers and moderators, including:

  • Hilary Black, Chief Advocacy Officer of Canopy Growth and Founder of the BC Compassion Club Society, Canada’s first medical cannabis dispensary
  • Audrey Choi, Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer for Morgan Stanley
  • Allana Harkin, Canadian actress, playwright and producer for “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” on TBS
  • Jenn Harper, Founder of Cheekbone Beauty Cosmetics Inc.
  • Jess Herbst, former mayor of New Hope, Texas, and human rights advocate
  • Sarah Kauss, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of S’well
  • Pat Mitchell, Editorial Director of TEDWomen and journalist
  • Tina Moen, PharmD, Chief Pharmacy Officer and Senior Deputy Chief Health Officer for IBM Watson Health
  • Tumi Morake, South African comedian, television personality and author of the book “And Then Mama Said…”

IWF hosts its World Leadership Conferences on an annual basis, convening the leading architects, advocates, catalysts and pioneers of change – women who are re-drawing the map for how we will live, work, produce and maintain healthy communities in the coming years.
