“Visionaries and Voyagers” Features Discussions on Future of Europe, Girl’s Education, Sustainable Fashion, Other Global Issues
BARCELONA – From April 10-12, 2019, the International Women’s Forum (IWF) Cornerstone Conference will convene nearly 1,000 women experts and visionaries from over 35 nations in Barcelona, Spain. Centered around the theme “Visionaries and Voyagers,” the three-day conference will provide a global platform for thought leaders from across industries to discuss topics including the use of 5G technology and barriers for women in sports.
“IWF is excited to bring our Cornerstone Conference to Barcelona, which provides the perfect backdrop to assemble our membership of game changers to examine today’s most pressing issues through a woman’s lens. The connectivity among our global members allows for collaboration on how we can work together to shape a more vibrant future,” said IWF President and Trudeau Corporation Vice President, Deborah Shannon Trudeau.
Each year, the Cornerstone Conference is held in a country outside of North America that plays an integral role in addressing global issues. Barcelona’s rich history as a beacon of exploration and innovation makes it an apt location to host this year’s event. General session programming will take place in the Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona.
Prominent Spanish leaders will be featured throughout the conference. Ada Colau, mayor of Barcelona, will provide remarks at the conference’s opening reception; Beatriz Bayo, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at MANGO, sits on a panel about sustainable fashion; and Martha Thorne, Dean of the Architecture School at IE University in Madrid, will discuss the latest trends in architecture.
The conference will feature more than 50 speakers and moderators, including:
- Fatma Samoura, Secretary-General of The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA)
- Gale Anne Hurd, film and television producer, whose work includes The Walking Dead, The Terminator, Aliens and Armageddon, member of IWF Southern California, IWF Georgia and the IWF Hall of Fame
- Anand Menon, Director of the UK in a Changing Europe Initiative and Professor of European Politics and Foreign Affairs at King’s College London
- Melek El Nimer, Founder of the Unite Lebanon Youth Project and President of IWF Lebanon
- Cristina Caballe Fuguet, Executive Director of Industry Solutions for IBM Europe
Conference sessions will address topics with profound economic, social and political implications, such as the future of the European Union. The final Town Hall event will feature member engagement on the issue of girls’ access to education.
“This year’s agenda reflects the role of female creativity and ingenuity in innovation and cultural transformation,” said Ana Muñoz, non-executive director on several corporate boards, treasurer for IWF Spain and conference co-chair. Marieta del Rivero, partner at Seeliger & Conde, board member at Cellnex, president of IWF Spain and conference co-chair added: “We are pleased to host these inspiring discussions with second-to-none women leaders from so many countries and cultures.”
