Anita Nowak, Ph.D., is the Academic Associate for the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She is an empathy expert, award-winning educator and social impact coach. Anita believes in the power of “empathic action,” a term she coined in her 2011 doctoral dissertation that now animates all her teaching, writing, coaching, consulting and public speaking. Currently, she is responsible for designing and teaching a highly experiential course devoted to addressing the UN Global Sustainability Goals. She also teaches on leadership and social entrepreneurship and innovation. In 2014 and 2019, Anita was awarded Professor of the Year by the Desautels Management Undergraduate Society.
Prior to her current role, she co-designed McGill’s “Social Learning for Social Impact” Massive Open Online Course and was the Founding Director of the Social Economy Initiative, responsible for integrating social entrepreneurship and social innovation into the faculty’s teaching, research and outreach. Anita also served in the Jeanne Sauvé Foundation’s Public Leadership Program as Program and Instructional Design Advisor, and advised the McConnell Foundation on RECODE, an initiative to help scale social innovation at colleges and universities across Canada.
She is author of the forthcoming book, “The Empaths Strike Back: Stories of Everyday Heroes Using Empathy to Change the World.” As a three-time TEDx speaker, she also curates the Empathic Action Facebook community page and hosts a YouTube channel by the same name. She is a certified personal and professional coach, and helps high net and ultra-high net worth individuals and their families achieve their philanthropic and social impact goals.

Gail Golden, MBA, PhD, is the Principal of Gail Golden Consulting, an international network of senior management psychologists and consultants. She helps people become better leaders by drawing on her unique cross-background perspective. As a licensed psychologist and entrepreneur, Gail understands both the emotions and economics that successful C-suite executives must master.
Her approach combines performance coaching with psychology-trained skills of empathy to bring the best out of businesses, leaders and employees. Gail specializes in helping companies and leaders handle rapid change, build high-performing talent, avoid burnout, plan for succession and drive success. She has developed and led workshops in corporate settings on a variety of topics, including building a culture of innovation, becoming a powerful leader and developing high-performance teams.
Gail has extensive experience as a public speaker and media commentator, and has taught at the Booth School of Business of the University of Chicago. She has been quoted in Fast Company, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal and others. She is currently writing a book based on what she’s learned over more than two decades of helping leaders; “Curating Your Life” will be published in Spring 2020.
