2005 WORLD LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
WASHINGTON, DC
Taking Risks, Leading Change, Global Courage
WASHINGTON, DC
Taking Risks, Leading Change, Global Courage
| The International Women’s Forum hosted 700+ delegates to the World Leadership Conference in Washington, DC on October 18-21, 2005. Global Courage, Women Embracing Risk drew participants from 70 nations with 45 embassies participating from Azerbaijan to Zambia. On Capitol Hill to Embassy Row, at the World Bank to luncheons with the two women icons of the U.S. Supreme Court – Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sandra Day O’Connor -- and the Minister of Women’s Affairs of Afghanistan, to an International Hall of Fame ceremony celebrating the inductions of U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Afghan General Khatol Mohammadzai and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the 3-day program was filled with moments that stirred many emotions, invoked pride in the hope for the next generation, and connected IWF members to their core appreciation of women's role in shaping a stronger global community.
In a profound showing of support for the courageous women leaders of our times in sports, politics, exploration, public policy making, the military, health research, jurisprudence, business and community building, IWF members turned out in droves for the largest and one of the most internationally focused program platforms produced by IWF to date. Packed into three hotels across the city, IWF aimed to maintain a sense of intimacy and connection to our formidable host – the Washington, DC Women’s Forum - and to our membership while presenting for large audiences the substance and "edge" required for IWF programs. With feedback pouring in, it is encouraging to see that members responded favorably to the program and were still able to enjoy a sense of connection with one another and with host forum members who also received them in dine-arounds across America’s capital. Marking the occasion of the transition of leadership from The Right Honourable Kim Campbell, President 2003-2005 to Gay Cook, President 2005-2007, IWF paid heartfelt respect to her leaders with thunderous applause and standing ovations for both of these IWF titans who have given so generously of themselves to grow the organization. Comments have streamed in about how extensively IWF’s international reach has expanded with global participation, diverse and international members, speakers, honorees, Fellows and guests featured and joining IWF at every turn. Following is a photo journal of a program that struck a chord with IWF’s broad-based membership. |
