The future of change Over 450 women leaders came together at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada this October. The fastest growing city in the United States set the stage for IWF participants from over 25 nations to explore The Future of Change impacting women leaders and the global community.
   

The conference’s opening reception took place at the ranch of Wayne Newton and his wife Kathleen McCrone-Newton - Casa de Shenandoah . Set to the beat of country music and "finger lickin" barbeque, the Mayor of Las Vegas Oscar Goodman, IWF’s President, The Rt Hon Kim Campbell and IWF Nevada President, Lou Emmert – greeted participants who danced under the tents of the Newton's Ranch.

In the Bellagio’s elegant grand ballroom, best-selling author and noted authority on managing change – William Bridges, Managing Transitions – Making the Most of Change - helped set the tone for this World Leadership Conference. Bridges was joined by Myra Hart, one of four Founding Officers of Staples Corporation, and Professor of Management Practices at Harvard Business School with discussion moderated by Mary Bitzer, Senior Vice President at State Farm Insurance Company.

Women leaders of Las Vegas' famed gaming industry and members of the IWF address the conference on Maximizing Resources for Urban Development: Women in Gaming. Moderated by Elaine Wynn, Director of Wynn Resorts, the panel featured Diana Bennett, Co-Chair of the 2004 IWF World Leadership Conference & Founder of Paragon Gaming Holding Co., Developer and Manager of the Cahuilla Mission Indians Augustine Band’s Casino near Palm Springs, California and daughter of legendary Las Vegas visionary Bill Bennett, owner of Circus Circus and Sahara Hotel & Casino; Claudine Williams, the first woman president and long-time board member of Harrah’s and previous owner of the Silver Slipper and Holiday Casino; Jeanne Hood, former president of The Four Queens Hotel and Casino & member of IWF Nevada; and fellow IWF member the Honorable Lorraine T. The Water Management and Reducing Global Conflict session featured: Patricia Mulroy, General Manager, Las Vegas Valley Water District; William J. Cosgrove, President of the World Water Council, France; and Letitia Obeng, Sector Director, Middle East and North Africa Region, Water, Environment, Social & Rural Development, The World Bank with Dr. Stephen Wells, President, Desert Research Institute moderating the discussion and dialogue.
   
World Leadership conferees participated in a luncheon panel on global health issues keynoted by Ambassador Randall L. Tobias, U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator who spoke about maximizing resources for combating global virus pandemics. A follow on discussion was moderated by Las Vegas’ and IWF's own KLAS TV Health Correspondent and Anchor, Paul Francis with insights brought from Dr. Sheela Basrur, Chief Medical Officer of Health & Assistant Deputy Minister of Health, Ontario, Canada, (inspired leader of Toronto’s public health system during the SARS outbreak) and Dr. Donald S. Las Vegas Behind the Scenes components included cooking with the chefs of Commander’s Palace Restaurant, Bally Hotel’s Jubilee! showgirls entertainment, The Nevada Ballet Theatre and The University of Nevada Las Vegas’ International Gaming Institute. In the evening, the homes of IWF Nevada members were opened to fellow members for intimate dine around connections – always a conference favorite!

After an engaging look into prospects for the future in Geopolitics, IWF welcomed to the stage a cross-generational panel from around the globe for a perspective and glimpse into The Future of Change in Women’s Leadership. Opening remarks were made by Mina Sherzoy, Director of Entrepreneurship Development for Women in Afghanistan with discussion led by Allyson Maynard Gibson, President of IWF’s Leadership Foundation and Minister of Financial Services and Investments for The Bahamas who was joined by her daughter Zoe Gibson. The world of perspectives were represented by Aline Wong and Dr. Ting Hway Wong of Singapore; Raghda Kurdi and Salwa Katkhuda of Jordan, Galina Melnikova and Olga Savchenko of Russia, Ziva Patir and Dr. Yehudith Birk of Israel; Lou Kerr and Laura Ogle of the United States; and Dr. Rajaa Habib Al Khuzi and Dalia Falah Shawkat of Iraq.

To top off the World Leadership Conference – the Grand Ballroom of the Bellagio Hotel played host to 800 Gala Awards guests who were on hand to induct into IWF’s Hall of Fame, U.S. Dance Legend, Judith Jamison and the first woman in Space, Russia’s Hero – Valentina Tereshkova.
