Together with the Leadership Foundation, the Harvard Business School has developed a custom-tailored curriculum of rigorous training, lectures, group and one-on-one meetings, case study discussions, and specialized learning from women leaders. This component requires Fellows to complete reading assignments in advance of their arrival on campus, with additional evening reading, analysis, and review to be completed on-site.
Using the case study method of teaching introduced during the Fellows Program Orientation, as well as the traditional lecture approach, the faculty address the subjects of:
- Strategic management
- Strategic leadership
- Organizational change
- Leadership and authority
- Communication - the process of change
- Women and political leadership
- Framing a plan for change
- Managing change
- Sustaining commitment
- Negotiating Skills
Each Fellow is asked to come to campus prepared with a career issue or situation to work through during the week. More specifically, the Fellow should give thought to her career aspirations and the steps she will take to realize success. For example, a Fellow may seek to bridge the gap between her current position and a comparable leadership role in another, more visible, area. Under the tutelage of the Harvard Business School faculty and using the material presented in their courses, Fellows develop individual "action plans." These plans are drafted and discussed with the faculty in advance of their initial presentation. The week concludes with the final presentation of action plans and a discussion of sustaining commitments.
The Judge Business School
University of Cambridge
The Judge Business School of Cambridge University has developed a four-day program tailored addressing the topics of global management and leadership. Developed under the direction of the Dean of the Judge Business School, Professor Sandra Dawson, and a Senior Associate Member of the Judge Institute faculty, Pamela Garside (both of whom are members of the IWF London), the Cambridge University component of the Leadership Foundation Fellows Program was offered for the first time in September 2000.
Using a combination of Judge Business School faculty and members of IWF London, the training includes topics such as:
- Globalization and Catch-up at the Firm Level
- Managing Internationally
- Entrepreneurship
- Performance Management, including developing, evaluating and measuring organizational performance
- The Role of Information Technology in Managing Knowledge
- Europe: Business and Government
- Managing Diversity
In addition to coursework on the above subjects, Fellows reflect on and present their thoughts on leadership and women's leadership as well as conduct work on a case study that integrates the subject matter. Fellows experience typical Cambridge campus life, through accommodations and meals in the stately colleges.
